6 Common Reasons Why Your Uber/Lyft Rating May Be So Low!

With this review, I plan on covering the 6 common reasons why a Rideshare driver or passengers rating might be a little low and how they can possibly improve it! How many of you ever found yourselves in a position where you were able to leave feedback on a certain job or service performed, that was or wasn’t performed to your liking? How many of you ever left a good or bad review or rating for a service that may or may not have been completed the way you expected it to be completed? Well if you’ve ever found yourself receiving a bad rating for whatever reason and you’re looking to understand why you were rated so poorly, continue reading until the end of this review!

There are so many factors that could play a part in a Rideshare driver or passenger receiving a bad rating, that it can sometimes seem a little unfair and/or confusing. Especially for the one being rated poorly. Trust me, I know lol! And getting a bad rating can sometimes hurt more than it should, especially when you truly have done the best you could. But by me writing this review, I plan on changing that. There’s nothing like having a little understanding right? As Uber/Lyft drivers and passengers we find ourselves on a daily basis being rated unfairly for whatever reasons. But by knowing some of these reasons why this sometimes happens and giving ourselves some common areas to focus on, all of this could possibly change!

Here at #1RideShareDoc, I’m all about sharing my personal story and 37,000 rides of on the road experiences with you guys, especially when it pertains to the Rideshare industry. There’s all sorts of things to cover that I could discuss like for example, drivers and passengers being rated unfairly! That being said, let’s discuss the things that these Rideshare companies aren’t talking about. Companies like UberLyftVia and Sidecar just to name a few! Let’s create some understandings so that drivers and passengers feel more in the right place instead of out of place. Let me help prepare you for what’s ahead of you and more importantly behind you! Let’s begin..

This review will be divided into the following sections, for better absorption and clearer understanding purposes:

What Is An Uber Or Lyft Rating?

In the realm of Rideshare driving, a rating (often presented in the form of either 1 or 5 stars) serves as a system created by Uber and Lyft to allow drivers and passengers to express their gratitude or dissatisfaction for services rendered, whether the services were performed exceptionally well or executed poorly. The rating system is also used as a form of protection. Especially when it pertains to not pairing A driver and a passenger together again for a second time after having a really bad experience!

When Are You Given The Chance To Rate An Uber Driver Or Passenger?

At the end of each ride, both the Rideshare driver and the passenger are given a chance to let one another know (including the company) how their experience was while using the app. You’re not allowed to submit a rating before or while a ride is being completed. If you’re a Lyft passenger, you’re also given the chance to rate an individual during the ride. But that’s only if you’re a Lyft passenger and only when you’re using the Lyft app.

How Do You Rate An Uber Driver Or Passenger?

The way that you would rate your driver or passenger is fairly simple. Once a ride is completed, both the driver and the rider will be given the chance to rate one another between one and five stars. One star being the worst and five stars being the best! So for example, if you felt like your Uber driver didn’t do a good enough job for you to want to be paired with them again in the future, you would rate the driver with three stars or less. On the other hand, if you felt like your driver did a good job, then you would rate them with four or five stars.

What Happens When You Rate A Driver Or Passenger With Three Stars Or Less?

When an Uber driver or passenger rates the other party with either three stars or less, this immediately sends a message to the Rideshare company stating that someone had a bad experience and that both the driver and the passenger shouldn’t be paired with one another again in the future. Even if the passenger or driver wasn’t fully dissatisfied, giving three star ratings still gives off the same message! So in other words when it comes to individuals not wanting to be paired with the same driver or passenger again in the future, entering a one or a three star rating does the trick.

You won’t be paired with that driver or rider again in the future no matter what, unless that individual creates a new account! Now the same goes vice versa when rating a driver or rider with four or five stars. When Rideshare drivers or riders receive four or five star ratings, this immediately sends a message off to the Rideshare company stating that both parties had a good experience, which would also prompt the Rideshare company (Uber, Lyft, Via, Alto, Sidecar etc.) to pair both parties again in the future!

6 Common Reasons Why Your Uber or Lyft Rating Is So Low!

Before I begin, let me first say that the following common reasons why a Lyft passenger or drivers rating might be so low is not just for the passengers information, but for the drivers as well. That’s right guys! No matter how great you are or think you are, we all have a little space somewhere in our daily lives for improvement. And if you feel as though you don’t have any space left for improvement, create some. Now even though there are other reasons why an Uber driver or passengers rating may be a little low, these would be considered the top six in my book! That said, six common reasons why your Uber or Lyft rating might be so low might include the following:

Young businesswoman is casting shadow of devil on rusty orange wall behind her. Unfair competition. Aggressive marketing strategies. Hidden motives.

1.) Your Not A Polite/Well-Mannered Person: If you’re constantly finding yourself not greeting your passengers or drivers, not using “pleases” and “thank yous” when your supposed to or not saying anything at all while being in the presence of your driver or passenger, then this may be a major reason why you’re rating is so low. There’s been too many times I’ve greeted passengers without getting anything in response and there’s been too many times when I’ve completed a ride and a passenger didn’t say thank you. Sorry guys but moments like these are when I tend to rate passengers with three stars or below.

It cost absolutely nothing to be respectful! Who wants to be around the passenger or driver who lacks having good manners? Where’s the love?Where’s the appreciation? With that all being said, don’t allow the thoughts of already being polite or well mannered cloud your judgement when you’re contemplating the reasons behind your Uber or Lyft rating being so low..

2.) Your Not Practicing Good Hygiene: If you’re constantly finding yourself not taking showers on a daily basis as a Rideshare driver or passenger before getting into a motor vehicle, then you can almost believe for sure that this may be a major reason why you’re rating is so low. Especially if you happen to be a very well-mannered person. Who wants to ride with the passenger or driver who’s practicing bad hygiene? There’s been way too many occasions where I’ve picked up a passenger who was on time and very respectful, but also smelled like they made a mistake and sat on their babies fat nasty diaper lol! Or maybe something dead..

Now even though the rider was on time, very polite and respectful, I still have to leave them with a three-star rating due to me not wanting to be paired with them again in the future. If you’re a driver, you have to remember that your following passengers will be able to smell your previous funky passengers when they get in your car. Keeping this in mind, I’m pretty sure you guys would understand now why a driver wouldn’t want to be around a passenger like that again and the same goes vice versa for passengers dealing with funky drivers! Don’t allow the thoughts of being able to afford a shower cloud your judgement when you’re contemplating the reasons behind your low Uber or Lyft rating.

3.) Having Poor Driving Skills: Now this one pertains only to my Rideshare drivers..If you’re constantly finding yourself missing turns, stopping late or too hard, running red lights or constantly not following traffic signals in general, this could be another big reason why your rating is super low. Especially if you’re already a well-mannered individual and are already practicing good hygiene! Who wants to feel like they’re in danger twice in a row by giving a dangerous driver a four or five-star rating? Why would the passenger want to see that Uber driver again?

Especially when they almost killed the passenger! That being said, getting too many low ratings because of poor driving could actually cost a Rideshare driver their job and that’s only if they’re lucky! That said, don’t allow the thoughts of already being a great driver cloud your judgement when you’re contemplating the reasons behind your Uber or Lyft rating being so terribly low. It never helps when you lie to yourself!

4.) Your Constantly Late For Pickups: They say the first impression means everything right? Especially when a driver or passenger doesn’t know you! That said, if you’re constantly finding yourself showing up late for your pickups or being late to be picked up, this might be another major reason why your rating is so low. Especially when you’re already practicing everything else on this list! You’re continuously inconveniencing people is what you’re doing! Who wants to feel unimportant or like their time doesn’t matter, especially when there’s money involved? Why would anyone want to see you again once the transaction is completed?

Especially if the Uber driver was the reason why the passenger was late to work or the passenger was the reason why the driver didn’t get to the bathroom in time lol! Trust me, I know lol.. Being late for too many pickups is also another sure way to get your Uber or Lyft account shut down, whether you be a rider or a driver. Just something to keep in mind. That said, don’t allow the thoughts of already being a punctual individual to cloud your judgement when you’re contemplating the reasons behind your Uber or Lyft rating being so low.

Drunk friends singing in the car

5.) Your Intoxicated: Now even though I’ve heard of some horror stories concerning Uber drivers being drunk or intoxicated behind the wheel, this one I feel pertains more to the passengers. They say again that the first impression when meeting someone means everything right? That said, imagine meeting a person for the first time and they’re completely wasted! Not only that, but this completely wasted individual is sitting behind you! That said, if you’re constantly finding yourself getting wasted or intoxicated before getting into your Uber or Lyft ride, then this might be another major reason why your rating is so low. No Uber driver wants to be in your drugged up presence lol!

No driver wants to have to tell a grown adult how to carry themselves in public either. I know I don’t! Put yourself in a sober person’s shoes lol. Why would a driver really want to be paired with a drunk passenger twice? Regardless of it being the driver’s job to get them home safe or not, why would a driver want to subject themselves to a passenger who’s lacking good thinking or motor skills? I don’t know about you guys but I would consider that dangerous! That said, don’t allow the thoughts of being a passenger who knows how to control your poisons cloud your judgement when you’re contemplating the reasons behind your Uber or Lyft rating being so damn low lol.

6.) You’re Not Very Accommodating/Hospitable: If you’re constantly finding yourself not being very accommodating towards your drivers or passengers, then this could be another reason why your rating may be so low. Especially if you’re already implementing all the other suggestions mentioned here within this short, little list! But to help make my point even more, I’ll give you guys some examples of accommodating your drivers or passengers so we’ll both be on the same exact page. Let’s say for example you’re an Uber driver driving your passenger and your passenger happens to mention something about them feeling a little cold.

Then as their professional Rideshare driver you would then accommodate them by immediately asking if they would like for you to turn your heat on. A very simple way to go about accommodating your passenger right? Next I’ll provide you with an example to relate to my passengers, which will be relatively easy. Say for example your Uber driver’s GPS isn’t working properly or your driver just so happens to miss a turn, you would politely butt in and ask the driver if they need any assistance.

Going the extra mile sometimes really does the trick. Especially when you’re a driver. It could even help you to not only receive a five-star rating, but a nice tip as well!

My Professional Conclusion:

Now to conclude this short review, I would like to say that everything an Uber driver or passenger does including the things they bring along for a trip has a chance at effecting their Five star rating. From the mood that a driver or rider is in, to the way that a driver or rider smells, everything counts! And it all starts from the moment a driver and a passenger first notice is one another. When you’re not only mindful of this fact, but also mindful of the fact that treating a person the way you would want to be treated matters, getting constant 5 star ratings start to come naturally.

Now when it comes to pairing and unpairing passengers from drivers, pairing is done thru providing a driver or passenger with four and five-star ratings, while unpairing is done with three-star ratings or below. Hopefully by me writing this review, I’ve helped you guys understand a little better what the five-star rating system that Rideshare companies use and why your rating may be so low. Thank you so much for reading!

Now that we’re at the end of another short review, I would love to hear what you guys have on your mind! Do you guys agree with the reasons why a driver or passengers rating may be so low? Do you guys have anything to add on to my short list of common reasons that could possibly help a driver or passenger get their rating on track? Well whether you do or don’t, I would love to hear what you have on your minds.
